INTO THE WOODS
"Once upon a time, in a far-off kingdom, there lived a young maiden, a sad young lad, and a childless baker, with his wife."
GG&SS is excited to announce auditions for our Spring production of Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine's Into the Woods, which will run April 1 - April 4, 2020. Rehearsals will commence in January.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, November 12th, and Wednesday, November 13th, 6:30pm to 10:30pm on both evenings. The director has requested that you prepare one 32-bar cut of a song of your choosing (musical theater or pop or even just Happy Birthday is fine!) and bring a copy of your music for our MD to accompany you. If you're in need of inspiration, some suggested composers include Stephen Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown, Ahrens and Flaherty, Adam Guettel, Kander and Ebb, or Maury Yeston. There will also be songbooks available at the auditions if you would like to choose from those. Please do not sing material from Into the Woods.
After signing up for a time-slot, please fill out the audition form linked on the audition sign-up page (it will be automatically e-mailed to us). These forms will also be available at the auditions. Please also take a few minutes to carefully read the audition packet attached to this email (and also linked on the sign-up page).

General Casting Policies
Auditions are open to Georgetown Law students, faculty, staff, alumni, and to any interested members of the community at large. However, as a primarily student organization our shows must be cast in accordance with a couple of policies:
Prior to auditions, the Board will designate a list of “lead” roles for a given show. These roles must be cast as follows:
No one may be cast in a designated lead role without going through the formal audition process.
At least half of the designated lead roles must be given to current Georgetown Law students.
The remaining designated lead roles may be freely awarded to any “active member” of the group. Non-active members are not eligible for a lead role. For more information on whether you are an active member or how to become an active member, please refer to the GGSS Constitution and Bylaws or ask one of the board members.
Everyone who auditions for a musical or operetta production must be offered, at minimum, a part in the chorus/ensemble, to the extent that such parts are available.
General Rehearsal Requirements for Full Productions
We generally schedule rehearsals from Mondays to Fridays, 7–10pm. During the first few weeks, lead roles should expect to rehearse 4–5 nights a week, supporting roles 3–4 nights a week, and chorus members up-to-3 nights a week. You may or may not be called for the entire 3 hours each night. As we get closer to opening night, the full cast will be called more frequently.
All cast members are required to participate on a technical crew. Our crews generally meet on the weekends, but, depending on your assignment, you may be asked to complete work during the week instead.
